Interim govt faces three challenges

# Political parties want elections soon

# Citizens want stable commodity market

# Law and order has not returned normal

The interim government is running the state after Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5. Within short period, this government is facing huge amount challenges, mainly three challenges.

Of those, the first is to hold an acceptable national election quickly, the second is to control law and order and the third is to control the prices of essential commodities.

Outside the political parties, ordinary citizens are aware of these three issues. Although the political parties are playing an active role in holding the national election quickly, the common people do not have much headache over it. The important issue for the common people is the price of essential commodities. They went to buy the product with affordable prices. And the overall law and order situation is not worried.

Meanwhile, the political parties on the streets have been pressuring the government to hold an acceptable election quickly. However, political analysts see this pressure as mild pressure as no political party has organized any procession meeting or demonstration on the streets to get a quick election from the government.

The parties have been demanding the election by highlighting various weaknesses of the government by participating in the party program. The parties want to say that the elected government can play an important role in building the country. If the present government completes the necessary reforms and holds early elections, the elected government will play a role in building a new Bangladesh.

The interim government started its journey on August 8 under the leadership of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. After assuming office, Yunus held several meetings with important political parties of the country, including Bnagladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami.

In those meetings, the political parties urged the government to hold early elections. In the last meeting with the government's chief adviser, BNP sought a roadmap for the national election. On the same day, in a meeting held with the Chief Adviser, Jamaat-e-Islami pushed for state reform along with the election urge. Later, the party placed a 10-point proposal for state reform at a function at an elite hotel in the capital.

Besides, the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami have been demanding the national election by participating in the party programs. Similarly, the political parties on the streets, including the Gono Odhikar Parishad, Nagorik Oikya, are demanding early elections. As a result, the government is facing the challenge of holding an acceptable election along with needy reform.

Although the political parties are active and vocal about the election, the common citizens do not have much headache about the new election. They want to live comfortably. But the danger is the unlimited rise in the necessary workplace and commodity prices. Ordinary people are not able to move comfortable. Although there are products in the market, people do not have enough money in their pockets. Many commodities considered as food for the poor are now out of reach. The market situation is much worse. Although the price of fish and boiler chicken is low, the price of almost everything else has increased. In particular, the price of vegetables is very high, except for papaya, the price of almost all other vegetables is above Tk 80. Although the government claims that the price of eggs has decreased, in reality the price has not decreased much.

Consumers said that the government is unable to dismantle the syndicate, so the prices are not under control. They say that after the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, the prices of some commodities had already decreased, then everyone was saying that the syndicate was afraid of the cycle, but now they have handled the situation in various ways, so the syndicate is the same as before.

Criticism of the government on social media over the price of commodities is not decreasing, especially many are expressing anger with the information that the price of green chilli is Tk 400 per kg. Some are also giving counters.

A senior official of a private television channel wrote on his Facebook ID, he has become so restless in two months. Another private employee posted a counter on his Facebook ID with a screenshot of a news report dated July 1 last year, in which the price of green chilli was mentioned at Tk 1,200 per kg.

However, the common people are fed up and angry about the prices of commodities on social media. As a result, controlling the market is a big challenge for the new government.

Similarly, despite running the country for more than two months of the government, the normal pace of work did not come in the administration. Especially the members of the law enforcement agencies came to the workplace but did not return to work. As a result, it is a challenge for the government to actively use the law enforcement agencies.
