Power shifts but extortion not

# Extortion was stopped only for 2-4 days after AL oust

# Same lineman new extortion receiver

# Traders demand admin surveillance

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who recently lost his post, used to control the extortion of crores of taka a month around the truck stand in Tejgaon, the busiest area of the capital. Under the patronage of Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Transport Association President Mogbul Hossain, Truck Drivers Union President Monir Talukder and General Secretary Abdul Kashem Gong led shop occupation, extortion per vehicle, drug trade and other illegal works around this truck stand.

Even after the fall of the Awami League government, extortion did not stop. Only the principal has changed. Instead of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, now one of the top leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League is controlling the truck stand extortion. The situation is like that of Tejgaon truck stand in all parts of the country. The subscription lineman remains the same. Only the subscriber or principal has changed. Extortion is not stopped from anywhere, including sidewalks, garments, shops, stands. Even after the fall of the Awami League government, extortion did not stop. Only the face of extortionists has changed. They don’t do it openly; they are quietly collecting the extortion.

In Mirpur-10, shops are sitting on the footpath as before. When speaking to them, the businessmen said to daily post on the condition of anonymity that they still have to pay to political leaders. It is the lineman who collects the extortion. Only the people of Awami League (AL) who took the extortion earlier are no longer there. The opposition party of the previous government is now collecting extortion. Same situation in Karwan market. In addition to extortion, possession has also changed its face. After the change of government, a youth group leader of Ward No 26 of Tejgaon police station took over the temporary stall of some small traders in front of Tinshed Park Market in Karwan Bazar.

On the same day, some fish farms were occupied by the opponents of the former government. Extortion is not stopped in the transport sector either. Here too only the subscriber has changed. He also said that after August 5, those who used to collect extortion were in hiding for many days. But many of them are now openly demanding extortion. A Leguna driver at Farmgate said on condition of anonymity that earlier, Jubo League leaders, councilors, police all used to collect extortion. After the fall of the government, it was closed for some time, but now the subscription has to be paid again.

But now the subscription is not being collected in the name of someone before. Extortion did not stop even in the clothing sector after the country's political change. In Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi, extraction still has to be paid from Jhut collection to various sectors. Even if there are no previous subscription recipients, many are demanding extortion by defaming the name of BNP. Businessmen are also forced to pay subscription.
