This reporter of Daily Post spoke to more than fifty professionals in the last 15 days. Those who want to leave the country in the hope of a better life. While there are statistics on young people leaving the country each year, there are no statistics on exactly how many professionals are leaving the country. Recently, the Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) and the Peace and Justice Center of BRAC University conducted a joint survey titled 'Youth Matters Survey - 2023'. In this survey, a survey was conducted among 5 thousand 609 young people in 8 divisions. Here 75.5 percent blame the uncertainty of the socio-economic and political future as the reason for leaving the country. 50.9 percent of youth think that there are not enough jobs in the country according to their skills. 42.3 percent of youth feel that there are not enough opportunities for education and training and 40.8 percent feel that the country lacks innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, 33.9 percent of young people want to leave the country due to fear of personal security. 55.3 percent of young people who participated in the survey believe that there is no peaceful situation in the country at present.

On the other hand, 63 percent of the youth think that the overall peaceful situation in the country has deteriorated in the last 5 years. 88.9 percent of young people have identified corruption as the biggest obstacle to establishing good governance. Also, 29 percent of youth feel that democratic rights are declining in the country which is hampering good governance. If you want to go abroad, you have to sign the certificates of studying in the country from education, foreign affairs, law, and related ministries or departments. A senior officer of the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on condition of anonymity, I have been working in this department for quite some time. If someone wants to go abroad with a family visa, he has to sign more documents than a normal visa. In this case, the number of such documents is increasing.

Every day many people come with documents of family members. Many consultancy firms have been established in the capital and outside the capital for professionals and young people to go abroad. Visiting some of these firms, it can be seen that every day foreign-oriented people are coming to these firms to seek advice. One such firm is Swedish Global Education and Visa Service in the Panthpath area of the capital. Zafran Mahmood is a senior consultant of the firm.  He said the trend of going abroad is very high among the youth. But in the last two or three years, many people engaged in various professions in the country are going abroad with their families. There are many examples of leaving good jobs in the country and going abroad. Especially in America, Canada, and Europe, people tend more. One of the reasons is a better and safer life.

Talked to Dr. Ainul Islam, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Economic Association and Professor of the Economics Department of Jagannath University about the reasons for professionals going abroad and its future impact. He said, there are two positive and negative aspects of going abroad. Maybe for a temporary period, it may seem that going abroad and sending remittances will be useful for the country. But if talented people go abroad in this way, there will be a long-term negative impact on the country. We have to create employment to utilize the country's talent in the country. On the other hand, the political stability of the country is necessary so that everyone feels safe in the country.
