Middle-aged Paritosh Ghosh was a government employee. He lived in Chattogram, with some colleagues. In the middle of this month, he fell asleep talking to everyone happily and healthily at night. But he didn't wake up again. In the morning, when colleagues called him to go to the office, he did not respond, and when he was taken to a nearby clinic, the doctor declared him dead. His cause of death was a silent heart attack. Mahtab Ali sitting in front of the ICU of a private hospital in the capital with a confused face.
Both husband and wife fell asleep after having dinner. Every day during morning prayer, his wife called him, but yesterday he did not call her. He woke up in the morning and saw that his wife was unconscious. No response even when called. In panic, he called everyone in the house and brought his wife to the hospital. The doctor checked and found that she had a silent heart attack.
Visiting some government and private hospitals in the capital, it is seen that most of the heart attack patients who are coming are patients who have suddenly become unconscious without any previous symptoms. When they were brought to the hospital, doctors diagnosed them with a heart attack. A study of pathology has shown that a sudden change in temperature affects the Heart. Apart from cardiac arrest, many people suffer from other heart problems during the winter season. Which is about 31 percent more than summer. Blood vessels tend to constrict during winter. This is called 'vasoconstriction'. And if this happens, the blood pressure suddenly increases without any reason.
The Heart starts working twice as hard. When the outside temperature drops too much, it becomes difficult for the body to maintain its normal temperature. This results in damage to the blood vessels in the heart. Besides, the body's need for oxygen increases in winter. Vasoconstriction causes blood vessels to narrow. So less oxygen reaches the heart. It increases the risk of heart disease.
According to the World Health Organization, every year 19 lakh people worldwide die of heart disease related to tobacco use. And in Bangladesh every year two lakh 77 thousand people die of heart disease due to tobacco. In other words, every two minutes one person is dying due to heart disease. Dr. Mohit Chowdhury, a Fellow of the South Asian Heart Foundation, said that the reason for the increase in silent attacks in winter, is the artery called the coronary artery in the human body provides nutrients to the heart. A buildup of fat and cholesterol in one or more areas of a coronary artery can reduce or stop blood flow. As a result, the muscle cannot work properly. This is called a heart attack. It can happen at different ages. But the risk of heart attack increases in winter. Because the body has to work harder to maintain the body's internal temperature during winter. If the muscles are weak, it is difficult to work hard. Then hypothermia can occur as the body cools down.
This results in muscle damage which increases the risk of heart attack. Apart from that, people who have had a heart attack before, patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure and uncontrolled diabetes, smokers, and those who do not exercise are also at risk of silent heart attack.
