Who‍‍`s going to be the Ameer of Jamaat?

Abdur Rahim

Who‍‍`s going to be the Ameer of Jamaat?

Election for Ameer of Jamaat is going on. A three-member panel was formed earlier this month. Jamaat‍‍`s running Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is in the three panels elected by the central Shura members of Jamaat as well as former Acting Ameer and Member of Parliament Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman, former MP and Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar. However, if one wants to, one can vote for anyone outside of the three members of the panel. Voting has started from October 5. This poll will end on October 31. Responsible personnel are taking ballots signed by Dr. Shafiqur Rahman directly from Rukons across the country. Last year in 2019, voting started on October 17 and ended on November 10. On November 12 that year Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was declared as Ameer.

Earlier, these three were the finalists in the panel which was formed excluding the late Ameer Maqbool Ahmad. This time around 85 thousand Rukon are directly voting in the Ameer election. There are about 37,000 female voters and 48,000 male voters. The results will be announced in November after this month‍‍`s polling is over. After making a panel for the vote of Shura members in the Majlish, keeping in mind the party‍‍`s article number 62, religious knowledge, fear of Allah, loyalty to Allah and the Messenger of God, faithfulness, unwavering morale, foresight, analytical and innovative power, balance of temperament, etc. A year before the elections, there is a lot of curiosity surrounding the election of Ameer.

Speaking to the senior leaders of the party, it is known that although there is a matter of voting keeping the provisions of the constitution in mind, the Islamic movement also gives importance to the two issues of clean and political visionary. The Islamic movement was more important to the former Ameer Maqbool Ahmad before the current Ameer or those who were hanged and died after being punished. After that, the former left-wing leader of Sylhet, Shafiqur Rahman, became the Ameer, and the issue of politics gained importance in the party. The scope of requirements has also increased. Now two things are working among the Rukons ahead of upcoming twelfth parliamentary elections, whether they will find a person of political movement or someone of spiritual senior and mainstream of the movement. The twelfth election party candidate has to be resolved including the finality of various complications, then maybe Dr. Shafiqur Rahman can become Ameer again. And if you look for someone with experience and the main current of the movement, in that case, the name of former acting Ameer Mujibur Rahman, who is known as a spiritual leader and is very close to the former four Ameers, is being mentioned more. On the other hand, Professor Mia Golam Parwar‍‍`s name is also prominent in the discussion of student politics, field level role and political experience. He said that he has a different acceptance as a clean and selfless person in the party.

It should be noted that Maqbool Ahmad is the third elected Ameer of Jamaat. Earlier Ghulam Azam and Matiur Rahman Nizami were the elected Ameers of the party. Apart from this, late Abbas Ali Khan, Maulana Abdur Rahim, Mujibur Rahman served as acting Ameer of the party at various times. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is currently elected as the fourth Ameer.

Former acting Ameer & spiritual leader in the party Mujibur Rahman‍‍`s name is coming up frequently: Professor Mujibur Rahman. Known as the spiritual leader in the group. He also served as Acting Ameer. This former MP is now serving as Nayeb-e-Ameer in the party. He was born in Rajshahi. He was associated with the Islamic Chhatra Shibir since his student days. Passed Honors-Masters from Rajshahi University in English department. In 1986, he was elected Member of Parliament from Rajshahi-1 (Tanor-Godagari) Constituency. The first prayer break was started in February 1987 due to his efforts. Apart from this, the ritual of standing and observing a minute of silence along with the condolence proposal was also introduced in the parliament. He is also the author of many books on Islam and Islamic life. Wrote many books. His authored books include - Examples in Al-Quran, Al-Qur‍‍`an at a Glance 100 Fourteen Surahs, Al-Qur‍‍`an Dialogues, Islamic Behavior, Laugh Less Cry More, From Prison to Court Professor Ghulam Azam, Good News for Patients in the Light of Quran and Sunnah, Run Towards Allah, Wedding Gifts, Muhammad Rasulullah SAW, Ramadan and Fasting, Preparation for the Hereafter, A while in the Arabian Lands, many books including all the reasons for the loss of deeds.

According to Jamaat sources, Professor Mujibur Rahman is the former Ameer of Jamaat Rajshahi city, former Central President of Bangladesh Labor Welfare Federation, Central Assistant Secretary General and Central Senior Naib Ameer of Jamaat. At present, his name is one of the undivided and senior members of Jamaat-e-Islami. He was always close to the former Ameers in the past. He was very close to everyone including Ghulam Azam, Matiur Rahman Nizami, Maqbul Ahmad. He holds the ideals and qualities of the party a little more than others. If the members of the Jamaat consider experience and seniority, Professor Mujibur Rahman can be the Ameer of the future of the Jamaat.

Dr. Shafiqur‍‍`s leadership is at risk this time around: the panel is made by keeping the ongoing Ameer. In the past, there were questions about the criticism and acceptability of the repeated confiscation of collateral and the statement of leaving the 20-party alliance in the past in the politics of voting, but recently he is also in discussion with the help of the people of Bhan throughout the country including Sylhet and the help of the Hindus after the boat sinking in Boda. Find out, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman‍‍`s village home is in Bhatara area of Kulaura, Sylhet. His political career started with Jasad Chhatra League. In 1974, Jasad joined Chhatra League while studying in MC College, Sylhet. After passing from there, he joined Sylhet MG Osmani Medical College for MBBS and joined the student camp. He was later elected as the camp president in this institution. Later, the president of the city student camp was Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. After coming to Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman served as Ameer of Sylhet metropolis, undivided district Ameer and Assistant Secretary General of the Central Committee and is currently performing the duties of Ameer. Currently he is one of the owners of a medical college and children‍‍`s hospital in Sylhet.

But his position in national politics is not very good. In the 2001 elections, he was the nominated candidate of the four-party alliance in Moulvibazar-2 seat, but his security deposit was confiscated. Since then, he has shown no interest in contesting any election. However, in the last election Dr. Shafiqur Rahman left out his own area and elected from Dhaka 15 constituencies with a grain of rice. But here too his security was forfeited. But his activism is focused on the media. He has affinity with top media personalities. He is always discussed by speaking in domestic and foreign media at different times. Many in the party also think that he is prudent in responding to the media. Recently, after speaking in a discussion with BNP Jamaat that it is no longer internal, he faced fire in his own party. The Jamaat leaders also claimed that Ameer‍‍`s statement was not the party‍‍`s statement. For some time, he remained silent in the party. However, in the meantime, he rushed to provide financial support to the family who died in the incident of boat sinking in Karatoa River in Boda upazila of Panchagarh. On September 28, Dr. Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman went door to door and gave financial assistance to their relatives in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon. He gave a total of 21 lakh 30 thousand taka to 71 families and went viral through the party and social media. Politicians of different ideologies also appreciated his work.

Professor Mia Golam Parwar in discussion on student politics, field level role and political experience: Secretary Professor Mia Golam Parwar is one of the discussions on student politics, role in field level movement and struggle and political experience. He is liked by the leaders and activists for torture and sacrifice. Mia Golam Parwa has been involved in politics since her student days. In 1974, he joined Jasad Chhatra League. In the latter half of 1975, after receiving the invitation of the Islamic Movement, he became involved with the camp from its inception and he held important responsibilities of the Islamic Student Camp for various periods. From 1996-2011 served as the Ameer of Khulna metropolis. Served as Central Assistant Secretary from April 2012 to November 2016. Since November 2016, he has been serving as the Central Nayeb-e-Ameer and serving as the Central President of Bangladesh Labor Welfare Federation. After that he was elected as the Secretary General of the party. After several defeats in the elections since 1991, he was elected as a member of parliament from Khulna-5 (Dumuria-Phultala) area as a candidate of the four-party alliance in the 2001 parliamentary elections. When asked about the party‍‍`s vote, a Shura member of the Central Majlis told Daily Post that voters will vote based on the qualifications of the candidates as per the provisions of the constitution. There is no grouping in Jamaat regarding this. No leader of our party is greedy for rank and file. Currently, considering the seniors and experience of the team, Professor Mujibur Rahman, Mia Golam Parwar, Maulana Delawar Hossain Saidi (punished), there are several important leaders including Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, ANM Shamsul Islam. Among them, the party is choosing to vote for three people. Anyone can vote for anyone other than these three people if they want. As a former MP and senior with experience, Professor Mojibur Rahman is more likely to become Ameer. However, since the vote is ahead, there may be some more considerations with the provisions of the constitution.

When asked about a top leader of the center who is in charge after the voting of Feni district, he said that 12 Rukans and seven women Rukans voted in this upazila on Saturday. He said, men voted for their favorite person after looking at the constitution. In this case, women asked for advice, they don‍‍`t understand who to vote for, we asked them to vote for the person of their choice after looking at the constitution. No one‍‍`s eligibility or quality to vote is stated in front of the voter. They voted for whoever they wanted. When asked to a responsible leader in the council, he told Daily Post that we do not have the opportunity to comment on this matter. He asked to contact the Central Publicity Secretary of the organization Matiur Rahman Akand. Although calls and short messages were sent to the phone number of Matiur Rahman Akande, he did not respond. An upazila Ameer of Feni, unwilling to reveal his name, told Daily Post, "We have a departmental supervisor here. We, men and women who are present, have voted. InshAllah we hope to know the name of our worthy Ameer by next December. Until then we will have curiosity.”
